For purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), The Christian Chain, Inc. is the data controller for personal data collected through this site.

What we collect and why

Analytics (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site — which terms are read most, how people navigate, and where traffic comes from. Google Analytics may set cookies and collect your IP address (anonymized), browser type, device type, and pages visited.

This data is aggregated and used only to improve the site. We do not use it to identify individual visitors.

Newsletter and email

If you sign up for our newsletter or download a free resource, we collect your email address to send you the content you requested and occasional updates about the dictionary. We do not sell or share your email address. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.

Retention: We retain your email address until you unsubscribe, plus up to 12 months thereafter for record-keeping purposes.

Free resource access cookies

When you download a free guide through our site, we set a small browser cookie to remember that you've received it (so you don't have to re-enter your email each visit). These cookies contain no personal information — just a simple flag — and expire after 30 days.

Legal basis (GDPR): Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — preventing duplicate requests and improving your experience.

Suggestion form

When you submit a term suggestion, we collect the information you provide (the term, your notes, and optionally your email address if you'd like a response). This information is used only to review and respond to your submission.

Legal basis (GDPR): Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — you choose what to share and submit it voluntarily.

Retention: Suggestions are reviewed and either integrated into the dictionary or discarded. We do not retain personal data from suggestions beyond 12 months.

What we do not collect

We do not collect payment information (we have no paid products on this site), social security numbers, government ID numbers, or sensitive personal categories of data as defined under GDPR Article 9.

Third-party services

This site uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

• Google (Analytics, AdSense, Tag Manager)
• Vercel (hosting and analytics)
• Logos Bible Software (RefTagger — scripture reference tooltips)
• Tarvent (email marketing platform)

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties.

International data transfers

This site is operated from the United States. The third-party services we use (including Google and Vercel) are also US-based companies. If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States.

Google participates in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and provides Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for data transfers. Vercel also offers SCCs for EEA data transfers. Where consent is the legal basis for processing, we only transfer your data after you have provided that consent.
